build great brands.
Developed to accompany any event or lesson plan. Each masterclass was developed with consideration to program and class times with room for questions and discussion. Therefore, all masterclasses are no longer than 20 minutes.
Looking back at the first year of my venture in public relations (2013 - 2019) I found myself working harder than my clients. And as a result, I began to believe that my services lacked significant value.
Today, my future wise self would say:
"You are in the start-up phase of your business, and part of that is adjusting and pivoting as you go. After you develop your product/service and its potential ideal client, you will need to test the market to see how they respond to it - and in order to achieve this, you will need to attract a pool of initial clients.
You're doing an amazing job. You attracted clients, recognized a hindrance to your growth, and sought advice. Don't be discouraged if they are not the right fit. Adjusting, pivoting and failure are a part of success, and a part of every business plan. You are not off track. You are exactly where you need to be. Don't give up. Keep moving forward. Those who are successful are the ones who never give up."
Within a year, I was presented with an opportunity to transition from working with talent, to working with the event producers who had a more business-driven mindset. I adjusted my vision, and saw that my services were bigger than my clients' needs. In other words, I recognized the need to pivot to a higher value client.
When building your portfolio, client list, reputation and broadening your network, your work ethic and creative ideas become magnets for:
-
Great clients are actively looking for opportunities to share and tell others about your work
-
Challenging clients who undervalue your talents and accomplishments
Most times these situations arise from placing ourselves on the wrong teams, projects and positions, due to outside financial and social pressures.
However, long-term success is not found in ego, pride, prestige or financial gain. It’s found in peace, with the right people, in the right room, at the right time.
